As a chemist Thomas joined Merck KGaA in 1999. He held various positions in research and business development in the area of specialty chemicals, e.g. as Head of Nanomaterials, as Head of Global R&D Quantum Materials Chemistry and as Director R&D OLED Chemistry. He came up with about 100 patents, significant product developments, and was awarded with the Merck Innovation Award. Since 2019 he is Head of Educational Partnerships and Strategic Projects Corporate Responsibility with focus on sustainability.
Thomas studied chemistry in Mainz (Germany) and Dijon (France) and holds a PhD in chemistry. He is active member in different gremia of the GDCh, the German Chemical Society and the Association of German Chemical Industry (Verband der Chemischen Industrie).
